Treatment of hepatitis C virus infection and renal disease

چکیده
Renal diseases occur frequently in patients chronically infected by hepatitis C virus (HCV). These may be causes or consequences of HCV infection. The prevalence of HCV infection in patients receiving hemodialysis is 6.7% to 10.2% in some centers in Mexico. However, the problem may be greater than these percentages suggest because the prevalence of HCV infection is as high as 50% in some countries. HCV infection frequently results in kidney damage. Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis with or without cryoglobulinemia is the most significant renal disease associated with hepatitis C, followed by membranous nephropathy and hepato–renal syndrome. Treatment of renal disease patients for HCV infection improves several parameters of renal function, particularly in patients with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and cryoglobulinemia. The mortality rate of HCV patients with liver cirrhosis is high. HCV infection is considered a risk factor independent from the death (RR = 1.57; 95% CI = 1.2–2). These results are almost identical to those of a recent meta-analysis of 2,341 patients. Because morbidity and liver transplant rejection rates are high in patients with renal disease, it is important to treat HCV infection prior to transplantation.

بررسی تأثیر عفونت هپاتیت ویروسی B و C بر بقای کلیه پیوندی در بیماران دریافتکننده کلیه
Background and Aim: Chronic liver disease and its complications are major problems in renal transplant recipients. Hepatitis B and C virus infections are currently the main causes of chronic liver disease in this group, and these may affect allograft outcome. Whether hepatitis B and C virus infections after renal transplantation adversely affect graft and patient survival, remains controver...
متن کاملPseudoporphyria in association with Hepatitis C virus infection: A case report
Pseudoporphyria is an uncommon bullous disease with similar clinical and histopathological findings to porphyria cutanea tarda, in the absence of detectable porphyrin elevation. We present a 34-year-old man with clinical and histological findings compatible with porphyria cutanea tarda, whose his urinary uroporphyrin was negative and we concluded that he was a case of pseudoporphyria. Concomita...

ABSTRACT Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients who lack detectable hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is called occult hepatitis B infection. Such infections have been frequently identified in patients with chronic hepatitis Cliver disease, but their prevalence is not known. Methods: 207 patients with chronic hepatitis C who were HCV -RNA and antiHCV positive were stu...

Background: Regulatory T cells (Tregs) have been involved in impaired immunity and may have a pivotal role in persistence of viral infections. Objective: To develop a simple and reliable in-house three color flow cytometery of peripheral blood to understand the role of HCV infection in the increase of Tregs. Methods: The level of naturally occurring CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T cells (nTregs) i...
